It is an unfortunate fact that employers and staff 'fall out' and conflict follows.  This might be due to an employer's perception of inappropriate conduct or poor performance; or workers feel they are being badly treated.  It might be due to job losses and redundancy caused by business conditions or merger/acquisition.  Whatever the cause, handling conflict can be costly for employers in terms of time, legal costs and compensation; and for workers in lost wages, stress and legal costs. Prevention of conflict is the best policy, by having clear contracts and effective policies, but when it arises both parties have an interest in having effective conflict-handling procedures and ensuring that these are followed.
